Printable Technical Textiles was involved in the world’s first Nitrogen Oxide absorbing facade (NOx), installed in Hamburg, Germany. This innovation truly fits our passion for printed technical textiles for long-term use

This project was initiated by ECE, German market leader for customized real estate concepts and a pioneer in sustainable solutions in the development sector. Under the scientific supervision of RWTH Aachen University, the world’s first textile facade that filters harmful nitrogen oxides from the air on an office building was installed at ECE’s corporate campus in Hamburg.

Printable Technical Textiles was approached by Hillebrandt Stahl- und Behälterbau to produce the printed mesh fabric with the SolidskinTec printing process. This ensured both a protected durable print and thanks to our PU-varnish also a base layer for an additional coating with nano-titanium oxide. This coating binds the harmful nitrogen oxides that pollute the air through car emissions.

The Nitrogen Oxide absorbing facade not only binds nitrogen oxides but also helps to reduce the CO2 emission of the 22-year-old ECE office building: Studies have shown that this new mesh fabric building envelope can reduce up to 78 percent of the solar cooling loads of buildings in summer.

This Nitrogen Oxide absorbing facade pilot aims to test new solutions for sustainable building envelopes and to test the innovative textile facade under experimental conditions. Therefore complex digital measurement technology is installed. The Institute for Textile Technology Aachen (ITA) at RWTH Aachen University supports the project. It was part of a research project by architect Jan Serode, which started in 2016 and is carried out closely with industry and health organizations.

Not only trucks use our SolidskinTec print solution to preserve appearance during transportation.

Also, Clarijs uses our SolidskinTec printing process for their (cycle)bags and bakfiets covers. Like trucks, these bags are subject to excessive use and weather conditions and must withstand the test of time. Printable technical textiles deliver their custom printed and printed series productions with outstanding quality. Clarijs also creates bags from our leftover materials to create a more sustainable bag with a surprisingly funny result.

About Clarijs.

Although initially a saddlery company founded by the brothers Clarijs in 1948. The company started to focus more on processing sail canvas and related products. The company evolved and has passed on to the sons and grandchildren and has grown into production work of (cycle)bags and bakfiets covers in recent years. Clarijs products are sold in more than 12 countries, including the USA and Canada. Please visit their website if you want to know about Clarijs or order one of these indestructible bags.

Another SolidskinTec application. This time it’s running on the rail! The above picture is from a Bombardier locomotive with flex panels HSL Benelux.

Why choose the SolidskinTec printing process?

The exposure of materials on trains requires extreme robustness. Besides the challenging conditions the textiles are exposed to, such as rain, wind, and UV radiation, they must also withstand the copper deposit created by the grinding of the current train collector against the overhead contact line. Very aggressive cleaning methods are needed to remove this deposit from the materials. Our printing technology is dirt resistant and does not break in this challenging cleaning regime.

Visitors of the Brunssum Open Air Theater in the south of the Netherlands enjoy the brand new Tensile roof of the theater, which APR Projects installed on behalf of Poly-Ned. Local architect Ivo Rosbeek designed the structure, where integration with the environment was essential.

The open-air theater is located in the middle of a park. Therefore, the architect decided to extend the natural surroundings under the tensile roofing using print. Poly-Ned approached Printable Technical Textiles to print the leaf pattern on the specially prepared technical textiles used for this project. We protected these with our unique SolidskinTec polyurethane fusion, so the prints are guaranteed to remain colorfast and dirt-resistant for 10 years. If you look closely, you will also discover various quotes from creative minds from the Dutch theater history among the printed leaves, an excellent addition to the Tensile roofing that completes the picture.

Printable Technical Textiles offers a second-to-none durable printing solution on technical textiles used for tensile roofing. Architects and builders are becoming increasingly creative with customized designs for stunning tensile structures and fabric roofs. Beautiful and unique, these impressive solutions are surprisingly easy to create. Our 10 year warranty on appearance, plus the complete creative freedom in design, opens doors for a new generation of tensile structures.

This terrace canopy was designed for a private villa in Jeddah, the unique feature of this triple cone tensile fabric structure is the printed graphic on the underside. The 2D Arabic graphic had to be distorted with specialist software and overlaid onto the 3D conical form of the membrane. Each PVC coated polyester panel was then printed with our SolidskinTec printing process and then assembled in Bristol by Base Structures. Careful detailing of the graphic at the overlapping seams ensured the overall pattern lined through from panel to panel.

The quality of the light diffusing through the printed graphic and colourful geometric border provides a dramatic contribution to this high quality development. Our unrivalled coating makes the shades durable for more than 10 years against the harsh Middle East sun.
