Vuilafstotend textiel met minder onderhoud
Het SolidskinTec printproces verandert het nanoscopische oppervlak van het technisch textiel zodat vuildeeltjes, chemicaliën en waterdruppels zich er niet aan kunnen hechten. Deze eigenschap staat bekend als het lotuseffect omdat het lijkt op de manier waarop lotusbloemen water en vuil afstoten. Dit hydrofobe oppervlak is zelfreinigend en gemakkelijker te onderhouden omdat het vuil en bacteriën beter afstoot dan onbehandeld textiel. In het kader van onze garantie werd onze SolidskinTec onafhankelijk getest (ISO 105-A02 / ISO 16474-3) door TÜV-TNO en het COT Institute. De testcriteria waren gebaseerd op werkelijke omstandigheden. Tijdens deze tests werden metingen verricht op het behoud van kleurintensiteit, hechting, flexibiliteit en de vuilafstotende werking. In plaats van daglicht te simuleren met een Xenon-lichtbron werd een UV-lichtbron gebruikt (Type II – UVA 340 nm). De duur van de tests werd vastgesteld op 5.000 uur, wat overeenkomt met het gemiddelde aantal uren zonneschijn in West-Europese landen gedurende 10 jaar. Alle tests werden uitgevoerd met en zonder de invloed van watercondensatie. De uitkomst was dat het technisch textiel bedrukt met SolidskinTec alle tests doorstond.

In 2018, Koch Membranen was challenged by the Deichmann Group to create a new fabric facade consisting of as many as five shades of green from the shoe chain’s corporate identity. It was a logical wish from the architect but a difficult task for the installer. After all, the specified technical textile from Serge Ferrari (Frontside View 381 mesh) was not standardly available in these shades of green. The required quantity of each color did not come close to the required minimum for custom production.

In early 2021 this hotel was completely renovated, and the rooftop deck with swimming pool, lounge, and pool bar got a stunning new look. Dutch Circuit Zandvoort underwent a large-scale upgrade in preparation for the return of Formula 1 to the Netherlands. The entire circuit was redesigned to be ready for the future. An important eye-catcher was the renovation of the main grandstand, including a brand new fabric roof.

The exposure of materials on trains requires extreme robustness. Besides the challenging conditions the textiles are exposed to, such as rain, wind, and UV-radiation, they must also withstand the copper deposit created by the grinding of the current train collector against the overhead contact line. Very aggressive cleaning methods are needed to remove this deposit from the materials. Our printing technology is dirt resistant and does not break in this challenging cleaning regime.

For the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham (NEC), Base Structures delivered a 3-Dimensional fabric facade cladding and printed over-cladding that are part of the revitalization and redevelopment of the center. The new design has 37 translucent pyramid structures with especially sandwiched panels between the pyramids as a series of vibrant color panels. These colors were carefully designed and also used in the corporate identity. As part of the permanent installation, the perseverance of color is essential to NEC. The unlimited 10 years warranty ensures it will stay in perfect condition for years to come.

Often placed in central areas in town, architects struggle to balance cost against the appearance of the construction from the street. More and more, we see that parking textile facade structures solve this dilemma.

We can hardly think of a better reference than being selected for our textiles for facade architecture of the Cité internationale de la tapisserie (Museum of Aubusson tapestry). Located halfway between Clermont-Ferrand and Limoges, this major centre for artistic craft and a skill dating back to the Middle Ages, the Aubusson tapestry was listed as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
